AZ Redistricting Fair and Competitive Maps Update 9-4-21

IRC Meeting Update: This week the IRC announced that they plan to host five additional public hearings, to be scheduled in late September and early October.

The exact dates and locations have yet to be announced. Stay tuned!

Tuesday's IRC meeting featured several presenters, including: the mapping consultants, who discussed Arizona's redistricting criteria, as well as voter pattern analysis; Sarah Porter, Director of the ASU Kyl Center for Water Policy; Philip Bashaw, lobbyist with the Arizona Farm Bureau; and Robert Medler, lobbyist with the Western Growers Association. Presentations available for view on the IRC website.

The IRC is scheduled to meet next on Tuesday, September 14th, and it is anticipated that they will review and approve the grid maps at this 9/14 meeting. The grid maps are drawn using only two criteria (population data and compactness), and serve as the starting point for the mapping process. [IRC Public Meetings]

Public Hearings Petition: Join All on the Line Arizona in demanding that the IRC host more public hearings in communities of color:

Since the redistricting process began, Arizona's commission has failed to make public hearings truly accessible to Arizonans of color. That must change.

We're calling for more hearings to be held in communities of color, with translation and interpretation services available, so that all Arizonans can fully participate and make their voices heard.
