Fair and Competitive Maps Update
Saturday, September 11th 2021

IRC Meeting Update: The IRC did not meet this week. The Commission is scheduled to meet next on Monday, September 13th for a public training on the map submission tool. [9/13 - Mapping Tool Training]

They will also meet the following day, Tuesday, September 14th, and it is anticipated that they will review and approve the grid maps at this 9/14 meeting. The grid maps are drawn using only two criteria (population data and compactness), and serve as the starting point for the mapping process. [IRC Public Meetings]

Public Hearings Petition: Last week the IRC announced that they plan to host five additional public hearings, to be scheduled in late September and early October. Join All on the Line Arizona in demanding that the IRC host more public hearings in communities of color:

Since the redistricting process began, Arizona's commission has failed to make public hearings truly accessible to Arizonans of color. That must change.

We're calling for more hearings to be held in communities of color, with translation and interpretation services available, so that all Arizonans can fully participate and make their voices heard.

Redistricting Info Sessions: Join us for an hour-long informational session on the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission. We'll cover the history of the commission, how our maps are drawn, and how Arizonans can engage in this exciting process. Our next session will be held Friday, September 24 at 12PM.
